What can I gain from attending West Tech Fest 2023?

From the festival experience, attendees walk away having learned about the current trends within the industry, hearing from industry leaders and pioneers about industry insights and current investment opportunities.

Attendees also have the opportunity to make new connections with like-minded individuals from across the country. Office Hours with investors and VCs will also be available to discuss business ventures. West Tech Coast also provides the opportunity to build connections and celebrate the startup ecosystem in a more relaxed environment.

What is the weather like at this time of the year?

December-February are the Summer months here in Western Australia, so you can expect warmer weather. Temperatures may reach up to 40°C during this period so be sure to bring some sunscreen, a hat and drink plenty of water.

What is your COVID policy?

If you have COVID-19, please stay home until your symptoms have resolved to protect our community. This could take up to 10 days or more and a minimum of 5 day is a good guide. A full refund will be issued in the event you notify us at least 24 hours’ before the event start time of any symptoms you’re experiencing. Notifications within 24 hours will result in a 50% refund issued.

What happens if the Government enforces COVID-19 restrictions?

West Tech Fest will follow all Western Australian State Government mandates regarding COVID-19, including introducing mask-wearing requirements should that become necessary at the time of the festival. We will ensure our locations are COVID-safe with hand sanitiser available around the venues, and will update our COVID-19 plan as required.

Event FAQs

Are there age restrictions for events?

West Tech Fest aims to involve as many founders and investors as possible. However, as alcohol is served at our evening networking events, anyone under the age of 18 will not be able to attend these without a guardian.

Does West Tech Fest have a code of conduct?

The organisers of West Tech Fest are committed to providing an event program that is welcoming and safe for all participants, is free from unlawful discrimination and harassment, and where all participants are treated with dignity and respect. Adherence to this Code of Conduct is a requirement for all West Tech Fest participants and sponsors, and covers all aspects of the West Tech Fest Program, including all social events and all communication, including that via email or social media associated with any of the events.

All participants are expected to behave professionally, be considerate and be respectful at all times. All verbal and written communication should be inclusive and appropriate for a diverse professional audience. 

Unacceptable behaviour includes, but is not limited to: 

  • Harassment, including verbal comments relating to gender, sexual orientation, disability, race, ethnicity, religion, age, national origin, gender identity or expression, or physical appearance. 
  • Inappropriate and/or unwanted physical contact. 
  • Unwelcome sexual attention, which can include inappropriate questions of a sexual nature
  • Asking for sexual favours or repeatedly asking for dates or contact information.
  • Stalking or deliberate intimidation. 
  • Unwanted photography or recording.

Individuals who participate in unacceptable behaviour may face consequences including being asked to stop, removal from the event without registration refund and, disallowed from attending future events. To report violations of this Code of Conduct, alert one of the West Tech Fest organisers (names and contact details listed below). Reports may be made by people subject to, or witnesses of, unacceptable behaviour. 

This Code of Conduct is designed to ensure that all participants are made to feel welcome and safe.

Does West Tech Fest offer discounts for charities and non-profits?

As a non-profit event ourselves, we are not able to offer charities and non-profit organisations discounts for our events. If you would like to attend on behalf of a charity, you will need to book the General Admission ticket type.

Where can I leave my personal items at the event?

There are no areas to leave personal items at the events. You are responsible for taking care of your possessions whilst attending any West Tech Fest events.

What happens if I have special access requirements?

Wheelchair access is installed at each of our venues. Please contact us if you have any other access requirements to assist you with your attendance.

Will there be an AUSLAN interpreter available at any of the events?

At this stage, no events will provide an AUSLAN interpreter.

Is there lunch provided at each event?

Lunch is included in the price of tickets to all of our events except for the Innovation Showcase or Freo Startup Fest.

Am I required to attend every event?

No you are not. While we do have the Full Festival Pass available to purchase so that you can get the most out of your West Tech Fest 2023 experience, we do have single event tickets available to purchase for each event.

Do I need to be involved with a startup to attend the event?

Not at all. All our events are designed to be inclusive to those who are not heavily in the startup scene. You may be interested generally in tech and innovation which all of our event programs and experiences are designed to appeal to as well.

What is the dress code for the event?

We recommend business casual attire for our events across the week except for West Tech Coast which will be held on the beach where we highly encourage you to swap the suit and tie for boardies, t-shirts and caps.

Is there anything I should do to prepare for the events?

West Tech Fest is an opportunity to network with new and exciting individuals. Therefore, we do recommend doing a quick audit of your LinkedIn profile, printing some business cards or setting up a digital business card like Blinq, and getting a haircut as you are likely to make many new connections throughout the week.

Ticket/Payment FAQs

When do ticket sales open?

Early Bird tickets go on sale Wednesday 11 October 2023. Final release tickets will then go on sale on 8 November 2023. Make sure you’re signed up to our newsletter for all the latest information.

What payment types do you accept?

We use Stripe to process payments for 2023 festival tickets/passes. This software allows us to safely process payments in a way that is quick and easy for our customers.

What fees do I need to pay?

All ticket/pass purchases are subject to a fee of 4% of the total cart value + $0.99.

My reservation says it is ‘powered by Humanitix’, what does this mean?

Humanitix is the platform we use to power our ticketing system. It is a “humane event ticketing platform that donates all profits from booking fees to children’s charities”.

Can I buy tickets at the door?

No tickets will not be available to purchase at the door.

What is a Festival Pass?

A Festival Pass is an all-inclusive ticket that guarantees entry to all West Tech Fest events throughout the week plus a host of other benefits including a West Tech Fest T-shirt, plus invites to exclusive invite-only events. 2023 Passes sold out on Thursday 28 September.

Can I share a Festival Pass with a colleague/s?

For security reasons, Festival Passes cannot be transferred to an unregistered individual. If you have other colleagues wanting to attend events throughout the week, they’re welcome to purchase additional tickets.

I can no longer make it to the event. Can I get a refund?

Our refund policy allows for free cancellation up to 30 days before the event without any reason. Refund requests after this time are not available.

I purchased the wrong ticket! What do I do?

I bought a General Admission ticket but just realised I qualify for the Under 25 ticket. Can I get a refund for the difference?

What happens if I haven’t received my ticket confirmation?

Do you offer group discounts?

At this stage, no we do not offer group discounts. Our ticket prices are fairly valued based on the experience you’re guaranteed to receive so for this reason, no further discounts are provided regardless of how many tickets you purchase.

Travel and Accommodation FAQs

When should I arrive in Perth?

West Tech Fest officially commences on Monday 4 December 2023. However, if you are a Festival Pass holder, you are invited to join us for the VIP Launch Party powered by CISCO that will be held the day before, Sunday, 3 December 2023. It is recommended to arrive before the first event you attend, providing yourself time to check in, rest and recharge, and acclimate. Feel free to arrive a couple of days earlier and enjoy the weekend sightseeing around our beautiful state.

What is the best way to get from the airport?

There are a few available options when travelling to and from Perth Airport.

Taxis: The main taxi service providers are Black & White Cabs and Swan Taxis. Both are available 24/7 to pick-up arriving passengers from the taxi ranks located at the front of all terminals – simply follow the signs.

Public Transport: Transperth is WA’s public transport provider and operates regularly between Perth Airport, the CBD and other local areas.

Individuals can now take a direct train to and from the airport with the new METRONET Forrestfield-Airport Line, operating from Claremont to High Wycombe via Perth Station. Trains will operate every 12 minutes at peak times, every 15 minutes during the day and every 30 minutes at night (Click here for Airport Line Timetable).

Rideshare: Perth hosts a variety of rideshare services, including Uber, DiDi and Ola.

Is public transport included in the ticket price?

No, transportation costs are not included in the ticket prices.

Who can I contact regarding accommodation?

What are the parking arrangements like at each event?

There is no dedicated parking available for the events. For events held in the CBD, CPP and Wilson carparks are available. Limited paid street parking is also available.

Are there any organised shuttles to the events outside of the city?

No, there are no organised shuttles to events outside of the city. For more information on how to travel around Western Australia, please see Travelling Around Perth.

Do you have preferred accommodation providers?

Yes. We recommend staying the Pan Pacific Hotel in Perth’s CBD where our conference, West Tech Main, will be held on Wednesday 6 December.

What flights are available?

QANTAS and Virgin Australia are the primary operators of flights from all major hubs of Australia, while Singapore Airlines, Emirates and QATAR Airways the primary carriers for international travellers. With up to 100 scheduled flights per week from each major Australian hub, Perth is an easy destination to book flights between major cities.

What Visa(s) do I need to apply for?

If you are travelling domestically, no Visa(s) is required. However, if you are an International visitor, please head here to find out what Visa you may need to apply for.

What tourist destinations are there?

Have time to spare? Check out Kings Park and Botanic Garden, Elizabeth Quay, the Western Australian Museum, Matagarup Bridge and Optus Stadium. For more things to do head to Visit Perth.
